Tumkur University, established in the year 2004, has gained significance
as one of the young universities in the country and has been recognized
as an institution of higher learning on par with high profile national
institutions. It is a State University, established to cater to the
educational needs of Tumakuru district where the majority of students
hail from the rural background. Since its inception, the University has
been witnessing tremendous growth in the development of its academic
profile and infrastructural facilities. Within a short span of thirteen
years, the University has been successful in being recognized under
section 2(f) and 12(B) of the UGC Act 1956 and also successfully gaining
'B' grade by the NAAC accreditation.
Department of Studies and Research in Library and Information Science
Department of Studies and Research in Library and Information Science
was established in 2005 with the objective of imparting high quality
education in Library & Information Science with competence in meeting
the challenges of the knowledge society. The Department has five well
qualified faculty members with diverse teaching, research and
industrial experience. Over the past five years, the Department has
conducted several international and national conferences. Saturday
Mirror Special Lecture Series is a unique feature of the Department.
Alumni Association of Library and Information Science, Tumkur University (AALISTU)
AALISTU was established in the year 2018 to provide a platform for the
alumni of the Department to equip themselves continually with the
latest trends and developments in the profession through well-designed
capacity building programmes.
Workshop Theme
Scholarly Writing: Strategies and Techniques
Hands-on experience on:
Selection of research problem
Review of literature
Formulation of objectives and hypotheses
Designing of questionnaire
Data Analysis using SPSS: correlation, chi square, ANOVA, etc.
Interpretation of results
Testing of hypotheses: t-test, z-test
Scholarly writing: thesis, dissertations, project reports, journal articles
Reference management in research (Zotero, Mendeley)
Research ethics: Plagiarism detection (Urkund and other free online tools)
Workshop Sessions
The workshop will be a hands-on experience. Tutorial sessions will be conducted by experienced resource persons on each topic with examples. Participants are advised to bring their laptop for installation of software.

Faculty members, research scholars, students of any discipline, librarians, information professionals and other enthusiasts.
